Opinion article submitted by a reader.

Ben White’s absence from the England squad has been noted by many, and there are a ton of people out there who think letting him go was a catastrophic mistake. The amount of value Ben brings to the squad with his superior defence is just too good to ignore, and millions of fans are now worried that the England team is going to be drastically hindered going into the upcoming World Cup without him.

We are going to be delving further into whether or not Ben White should have remained in the England line-up in this article, as well as taking a look at a couple of the reasons as to why he was let go. Let’s head straight into it.

An exceptional player in all regards

Something that just has to be said about Ben White is that he is an exceptional player. His debut for England proved to be widely successful, and we have no doubt that every single one of the members was happy to have him on their side.

Sure, you could make the argument that Ben White’s statistics are not the most impressive out there, and this is certainly true. However, his role as a defender limits him rather dramatically in this regard, and to compare him to players that are much further up on the pitch is somewhat unfair.

Ben’s defensive prowess is incredible, and when it comes to having an iron-clad player on your team who you can rely on time and time again, Ben White would be the perfect fit. This is exactly why he is going to be one of the most popular searches on almost any forecast calculator you come across.

He withdrew due to injuries

While many claim that Ben was overlooked by England, that’s not exactly the case. Ben voluntarily withdrew from the squad because of a nagging hamstring injury he was suffering from, and the common claim that he was just not chosen is entirely false.

In all likelihood, it was a little bit of both. Ben’s injury made him one of the weaker members of the team, and it was likely that talks were had about his viability for the upcoming tournaments.

This leaves things a little up in the air as to whether or not the team/managers actually wanted to keep Ben on the team. On one hand, it could have just been a coincidence – perhaps Ben’s injury just made him the obvious choice to get the boot.

Although, on the other hand, it is entirely possible that Ben’s injury acted as a prime excuse for his removal from the team, and he may have even been forced into his withdrawal.

This is just pure speculation – we don’t truly know what happened behind the scenes. All we know for sure is that Ben will no longer be in England’s line-up, and in all likelihood, we might not see his return for a long time. We will just have to wait and see.

All-in-all, Ben White is a fantastic player, and we have no doubt that his absence from the English line-up is going to be a major blow for them heading into the World Cup. This player was quickly becoming a staple of the team, and taking him out at such a crucial time is not likely going to have been the best decision.

Only time will tell – who knows; maybe Ben truly was holding the team back and we are now going to see a stronger England than ever before. Catch you in the next one.
