Fatal road accident near Sixpenny Handley

Police lights

A grey Toyota Yaris and a silver Mitsubishi pickup collided on the A354 at The Beeches near Sixpenny Handley, just before 6.45 am today (19th June).

Police, fire and ambulance services attended the scene, where an older woman in her 80s had to be freed by firefighters from her Toyota.

After being taken to Southampton General Hospital, the woman passed away, and her family was informed.

The man in his 50s, who was driving the Mitsubishi, suffered minor injuries and was provided treatment.

The stretch of road where the collision occurred (between Salisbury and Blandford Forum) was closed so that the police road traffic accident investigators could examine the collision and try to determine its cause.

Our thoughts are of course with the family of the woman involved at this difficult time. We will be carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the full circumstances of this collision.

I would appeal to any witnesses who have not already spoken to us or anyone who may have captured the incident on dashcam to please contact us.

Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place.
