Although many hoped that Weymouth’s famous beer festival won’t be cancelled this year, organisers of Octoberfest decided to put off the event until next year due to the coronavirus.
The event took place at the Weymouth Pavillion last year, where visitors could choose from 50+ types of beer and 15+ different types of cider. The event was so popular that they ran out of beer before the night ended.
The organisers of Weymouth’s Octoberfest have said that it would be dangerous and irresponsible to put customer and volunteer safety at risk this year.
With people queuing, talking and having fun, there’s a strong chance that the 2-metre social distancing rule wouldn’t be followed (if still in place by the previously-planned date) and the alcohol could also play a role in people’s decision making.
It is a shame we have had to cancel, I’m sure our customers will understand and I look forward to returning to Weymouth Pavilion next year as it fits all our needs to run the festival.Dave Harris, Organiser of Weymouth’s Octoberfest
