Road closures published ahead of Ironman 70.3 Weymouth

Legs and shoes of runners on road

The Ironman 70.3 Weymouth event is due to take place on 20th September 2020, with organisers hoping to proceed as planned.

Information about road closures has been posted through individuals’ doors, with only minor amends to the original plan: an additional closure on Weymouth Esplanade to provide more room for runners.

We’re hopeful that the event will be able to proceed, we’ve got lots of safety measures in place and then we’ll just keep monitoring the situation.

It’d be great to be able to bring the event to Weymouth this year and put it on for the athletes and the local community.

Dean Smith, Race Director

The Ironman event is known globally and takes place in cities and towns throughout the world. The event in Weymouth usually attracts crowds in their thousands. However, this is expected to be limited due to the current situation with the coronavirus.

Rest assured that thorough assessments as to the safety of the event to athletes, residents and staff have been conducted and a number of measures are in place, in terms of screening, distancing and touchpoint reduction.
