A Mini Cooper convertible and a Land Rover Discovery collided south of Gillingham town centre today on New Road (B3092), with one driver in a life-threatening condition.

The serious incident was reported to Dorset Police at 7:13pm today (21st June).

The purple Mini Cooper was being driven with its roof down by a Yeovil man, and due to his serious injuries, he was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital.

The driver of the Discovery was a 42-year old man from southern Wiltshire. He was taken to Yeovil hospital with all occupants of both vehicles, as a precaution.

Fire and ambulance services attended, and the road was closed to allow an investigation to take place.

We are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the full circumstances of this collision.

I am appealing to any witnesses who have not already spoken to us or anyone who may have captured the incident on dashcam to please contact us.

Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closure is in place.
