Weymouth’s famous seafood festival, the Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival, has been cancelled this year and new dates have been set for 2021.
Why was the Dorset Seafood Festival cancelled?
Event organisers initially moved the dates for the seafood festival to September, but have now made the decision to move the dates to the next year over concerns that social distancing rules won’t be followed.
The announcement comes just days after more than half a million people went to for the Jurassic Coast to bask in the sun, without worrying about social distancing.
In the interests of visitors, the tourist trade, sponsors and participants of the festival we have reluctantly taken this measure. We are pleased to say that Nyetimber and many of our other loyal sponsors have indicated their support for the 2021 festival. Without their support, the event would not have grown into such an iconic foodie spectacular.
Founded in 2008, the festival fits superbly well on Weymouth’s atmospheric Old Harbour and brings an estimated £2,000,000 into the local economy each year. The event supports the Fishermen’s Mission (over £80,000 raised to date), promotes the fishing industry and, of course, helps bring Weymouth seafood restaurants to the attention of many thousands of visitors.
We will be issuing regular press statements to both local and national press as well posting on our website [below] and social channels.Brian Cooper, Organiser, Nyetimber Dorset Seafood Festival
