Ellis Jones Solicitors’ Contentious Trusts and Probate team
Ellis Jones Solicitors

Dorset law firm Ellis Jones Solicitors has strengthened its Contentious Trusts and Probate team as the number of inheritance disputes continues to rise.

It has welcomed Solicitor Jesamine Somerville – an expert in Will and Inheritance Disputes – to its specialist Contentious Trusts and Probate team supporting clients in what can often be complex and stressful cases.

She joins hot on the heels of Ellis Jones Solicitors receiving the highest ranking of all law firms in Dorset for Contentious Trusts and Probate in the latest Legal 500 guide.

Ellis Jones Solicitors, with more than 140 staff and 17 Partners, has five offices across the south coast in Bournemouth, Canford Cliffs (Poole), Ringwood, Swanage and Wimborne as well as London.

Ellis Jones’ highly experienced Contentious Trusts and Probates team is led by Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution Lauren Day and comprises Senior Associate Solicitor Victoria Riddleston and Solicitors Ellen Shipton and Jesamine Somerville.

Increasingly complex family structures, rising property values and greater public awareness have helped drive a significant rise in contentious cases over recent years.

Dealing with contentious matters can be incredibly stressful and difficult for all parties involved, especially when high value estates or emotions are involved.

Our expertise covers everything from challenges over the validity of wills and trust disputes to Court of Protection applications and claims under the Inheritance Act 1975.

We take immense pride in supporting our clients with sensible and practical advice to find a clear path through their problems and achieve the most successful outcome possible.

It is a pleasure to welcome Jesamine to our team and we look forward to providing even greater support as the leading Contentious Trusts and Probate team in Dorset and one of the best in the region.

Lauren Day, Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution

The Contentious Trusts and Probate team works closely with lawyers in Ellis Jones’ Dispute Resolution and non-contentious Wills, Trust and Probate departments.

It gained a Tier 2 rating in the influential Legal 500 guide 2021 published in October when it was described as ‘excellent’.

Victoria was recognised as a Key Lawyer and Lauren was praised for being ‘brilliant at getting to the nub of the matter’.

Victoria was also ranked for the third year running as an Associate to Watch for Private Wealth Disputes in the South (UK) in the latest Chambers & Partners High Net Worth Guide for Private Wealth Disputes.

Ellis Jones Solicitors was also listed in the prestigious 2021 Chambers UK Guide of top law firms.

Victoria is also a member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS).

Figures from the Ministry of Justice in July of this year showed a record 188 contested will cases being heard at the High Court in 2019 – up 47 per cent on 2018 – although this represented the tip of the iceberg with most cases being settled before reaching court.

Ellis Jones is a regional law firm with more than 140 staff including 17 partners. It has five offices across the south coast in Bournemouth, Canford Cliffs (Poole), Ringwood, Swanage and Wimborne – as well as London – and offers a wide range of services to individuals and businesses.
